SPAJERS BAMPTON SHIRT RACE 2026

Shirt Race 2026 update

We are looking forward to seeing all participants and spectators on May 23rd for this year’s Shirt Race. Information will be available in the Bampton Beam, as well as in flyers delivered within Bampton and posters in the village and surrounding areas.  Social media updates will continue via the Spajers Facebook Page https://www.facebook.com/SPAJERS/ , the next door site, https://nextdoor.co.uk/news_feed/ and the Bampton Community Hub https://bamptoncommunityhub.org/ please share with your friends and family to publicise this fabulous village event.

If you are taking part, you can register for your race using the QR code on the poster, you will be able to register on the day, but pre-booking will speed up the process and enable you to collect your wristband on arrival.

To win any of the races you must be in a team of two, larger teams and chariots will be assessed for creativity and fancy dress. Our judges, Rev. Janice Collier, Spajers president Don Rouse and TV presenter Henry Cole will assess all entrants in a line up from the Morris Clown to the Market Square between 5.00 and 5.30pm. Be on time with your wristbands to make sure your creations are judged.

Funding the event

The Bampton Shirt Race is funded entirely by donations. In recent years costs have increased considerably reducing the amount raised to support our elderly citizens and threatening the viability of continuing the event. Feedback from the 2025 race proposed a small charge for entry. This is not something we would consider as the race is open to everyone. We are suggesting that senior teams provide a minimum donation of £5 per person to support the event and help in ensuring its survival.

We are extremely fortunate to have secured sponsorship for this year’s event from Rosebank Care Home and in future years hope to drive more funding in sponsorship of the individual races. Please let us know if you would be interested.

Our tin shakers will be out and about on the day of the race and we will be selling raffle tickets each Saturday from the 2nd May. This QR code will take you straight to our donation site if you would like to donate directly.
