Water, Wells and Waste in Bampton and Weald – Bampton Community Archive, Autumn 2024 Exhibition

WATER, WELLS AND WASTE IN BAMPTON AND WEALD

A fascinating insight into how water has shaped the development of Bampton and Weald. Discover the location of old and new wells and explore how we moved from private to municipal wells and water supply. Learn about cess pits, privies and about how public health and mains sewers resulted from the Cholera epidemics. Read what the newspapers said at the time and laugh at local stories. It’s a chance to reflect on the political and commercial issues that have taken us in a full circle from polluted rivers in the 1860s to polluted rivers today.
