Unveiling the Thames: A Multifaceted Exploration Through Art and History

The West Ox Arts gallery in Bampton is proud to present “Reflections,” a captivating exhibition opening on January 11th 2025. 

This showcase unveils a collection of artwork inspired by the River Thames, created by members of the West Ox Arts Association, who embarked on a unique exploration of the river’s path as well as work created by our  members during their days at ‘Kelmscott Manor’ as part of our ongoing collaboration. 

A Journey Through Time and Place:

The exhibition takes viewers on a thematic journey along the Thames, from its source at Kemble to the bustling Christchurch Meadow in Oxford. Each artwork reflects a specific theme “Source” captures the river’s humble beginnings, while “Connectivity” explores Lechlade’s rich history as a once-thriving inland port. Themes like “Memory Keeper” and “Biodiversity” delve deeper, evoking a sense of nostalgia for Radcot’s past and highlighting the vibrant ecosystem found at BBOWT’s Chimney Meadows.

Anita Joice, the artist behind the project, shares her vision: “We wanted to reconnect people with the river, not just highlight the environmental challenges, but celebrate its role in our lives – it’s history, culture, and even spirituality.” 

The exhibition serves as a call to action, inviting viewers to embark on their own exploration of the Thames. By appreciating the artwork, visitors are encouraged to discover the hidden stories of the river and its surrounding landscapes.

Exhibition Details:

“Reflections” opens on January 11th and runs until February 8th, 2025, at the West Ox Arts gallery in Bampton. Admission is free, and the gallery is open Tuesday through Saturday from 11:30 am to 4:30 pm, with Sundays open from 2 pm to 4 pm.
