DONKEY DERBY 2026

Thank you to everyone who came to the Donkey Derby!  We hope you had a great time and enjoyed all of the activities and, of course, the donkeys!  The photos show what a fantastic turnout it was on what turned out to be a dry and sunny afternoon.

The recent trip to Stratford is one of the activities that we are thrilled to have been able to organise and fund for the senior residents of Bampton and Lew.

The Donkey Derby helps us to generate funding for these trips and it’s always great to see the village getting involved: local businesses generously provide prizes, sponsor donkeys and embrace the organised chaos!

We couldn’t do this without the support of these local businesses and the many volunteers who contribute so much to help SPAJERs continue with our ambition of preserving ancient junketing!  Volunteers provided electricity, water, baked cakes, made tea, sold raffle tickets, operated stalls including facepainting, Aunt Sally, Skittles, pin the tail on a donkey (not a live one this time!), bean bag throw, crockery smash (very popular!), Splat the Rat & tombola.  And don’t forget our wonderful volunteers on the Tote, the gates &information tent.  To everyone involved: A massive thank you!

We’re a small committee and would always welcome new members and volunteers so we can continue to organise day trips and Christmas presents for our senior citizens.

If you would like to volunteer, in any capacity, please contact us via [email protected].

Without our amazing volunteers, these events won’t happen so please do consider getting involved!
